As the creative director of the grant-funded project, "Dismantling Fear: Voices of Tuscon's Refugee Community", Steph designed a literary magazine and website to share the untold stories of refugees within her community. Working with two University of Arizona professors, Steph helped interview and photograph many of the refugees herself. It was their goal to help remove the social stigma surrounding immigrants by giving people the opportunity to hear their stories first-hand. These peoples' resilience and gratefulness to be given the opportunity to escape unfathomable tragedy and loss to start a new life, here in America, is undeniably moving. With each story of a different individual from distant countries, a common emerged, nonetheless. Each person ultimately wanted the same thing: a safe home, a community and a sense of purpose.
