"Now Or Never" was a celebration of the creative talent in the skateboard community through the lens of Steph Reid’s five year anniversary as a skater. The show was hosted by Skate Brooklyn, where Steph won her first board and was welcomed into the NYC skateboarding community. The Harold Hunter Foundation's Creative Careers program she was in assisted with the production of her show.
Steph's sister, Lizzi (also known as Skate Witch), is the one who introduced her to skateboarding. So to continue her legacy, she always rides her custom, hand-painted broomstick grip tapes. To showcase this 5 year collaboration between sisters, Steph installed all 20 of her boards onto the wall in the shape of a pentagram. The effect was jaw-dropping and magical to behold.
Steph curated a collection of photos taken by twenty different photographers from around the world, who she has crossed paths with over the years. Each photo captured a memory & demonstrated a collaboration between the photographer’s artistic eye and the skater(s)’ physical style. They also documented the progress made and the connections formed through skateboarding. All prints were exclusively provided by Positive Print Lab studios.
The show also included a video projection of never before seen street footage from New York, Madrid, Barcelona and Munich shot by six videographers from around the world. Included were three graphic animations by Theo William’s that depicted a few of Steph’s favorite trick milestones. The video was edited together by Aldous Heaven and played on a loop throughout the opening. It can now be found on Youtube.
